- Dr. Brenda Babin, The Busy Bee Clinic
Dr. Brenda Babin is described as being an outstanding leader in every phase of her career: K-12 teacher, university lecturer, community college computer science instructor, School Board member and small business owner. Her passion has been to empower people to live better lives with the use of technology. During her tenure at LUMCON, she created a nationally renowned environmental monitoring program for Louisiana. Her most recent endeavor has been the opening of her small business, The Busy Bee Clinic, created in part as a result of seeing women struggle in their ability to connect wit their children and grandchildren utilizing new methods of communication such as texting and Facebook. This long time Girl Scout volunteer was recognized by the Girl Scouts of Louisiana East as one of the 2013 Women of Distinction. She was also recognized by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana's Child Caring Foundation for their Angel Award, which honors outstanding efforts on behalf of Louisiana's children. Additionally, while working on her PhD at LSU, she helped start the Oceanography Association of Women Scientists and is now working to inspire young girls to enter into Math, Science, Technology and Engineering Fields.
